Birthday Girl

I cannot be absolutely positive, but it looks like 3 candles on my cake.     On several birthdays, a picture was taken outside with the cake on this metal high chair.   A long time ago, I found a chair identical to this one at a rummage sale for 50 cents.  My kids used it and now my grandson is using it.  I am thinking my long, thick  hair must have been hard to keep tangle-free!!

Mom's Scrapbook

I was looking at my mom's old scrapbook...Lots of interesting things in there, from cards, to photos, and ribbons and napkins from weddings,  there are news clippings, letters, programs from concerts; there are invitations, school memories, and even remnants of rose petals from a corsage from 1930.

This was labeled, "My first valentine from Aunt Clara."  If Mom received this when she was 4 or 5 years old, that would make this valentine about 98 years old!
This is one of the many wedding cards to my Mom & Dad.  This was one of the "fancier" ones, because. . .
often-times in those days, people just found a piece of paper and wrote on it.  Mom & Dad were married in 1930 - I am guessing a lot of people didn't have money for fancy cards, or maybe a lot of people just didn't feel the need to buy a card!
Also included in the scrapbook was this Sunday School paper from 1939.   How many of you remember getting those special papers to take home with you at Sunday School?   They don't do that anymore, but when I was little (not in the 30's, however!) we still got the papers and thought that was pretty great!

Baby Boomers

I have come to the realization that I should open up a clothing store for those of us who are....uhm, well, more than 49 years old!    Those of you who fall into this category know exactly what I am talking about!

WHY CAN'T WE........
1.  Easily find tops year round with a 3/4 length sleeve - to better hide that flabby upper arm?  Enough of those SLEEVELESS tank tops!!
2.  Find PLAIN sweat shirts - instead of those decorated with pumpkins, leaves, deer, apples, or those that declare, "Grandma's Garden"?  We are not really amused by these!
3.  Find a NICE dress?   Why must all dresses for "mature" women be made out of ugly prints and decorated with lace that our grandmothers wore?
4.  Find dress slacks that are cut to flatter mature women?
5.  Find a PLAIN sweater without the sequins and/or other adornment, and one with a plain, ordinary neckline?
6.  Find a basic skirt that is not 6 inches above our mature knees?

Remember, the baby boomers are now the modern, mature shoppers!  Sad to say, most clothing in the stores look best on a 19 year old who weighs 90 pounds!  How about those necklines?  They plunge beyond decency!  Currently, the style is for tight jackets/shirts, as in "if you can button it, it fits,"  but really, I don't want to look like I am wearing something I have grown out of!   Goodness, it's even hard to find underwear for the modern, mature woman!

So, when I come into my millions, I think I will design clothing and open a new store especially for the modern, mature woman.   I will call it "Baby Boomers"  or something like that!   My store will cater exclusively to older women with flabby arms, thicker waistlines, rounder bottoms, sagging necklines, drooping breasts, varicose veins, gray hairs and any other jiggly parts or affliction that comes with maturity!!!  Oh yeah, my store will be equipped with special mirrors so that the baby boomers who shop there will look  like 19 year olds weighing 90 pounds!

For Sale, Cheap!

My snow crop is over-abundant this year, so I figured, "why not make a little extra cash?"   Except for a snow  shovel, I had no money invested in this year's crop, so that could be a pretty nice profit!  I thought perhaps there was someone that might like a little extra snow- you know, to make snowballs, snow forts, or perhaps even to insulate around the outside of your house!    It can be melted to water plants, and if it's clean enough, you could wash your hair with it!!   You could save some in your freezer and get it out in the summertime when you are feeling nostalgic about winter!  Maybe I could to sell it to the government so they could deliver it to countries without snow!    We should share, right?   I think the possibilities are endless, but one needs to act fast since it won't be long (hopefully) until the snow is gone.  Snow, anyone?

A Merry WMF Christmas

Each year, our WMF (Women's Missionary Federation) from church get together for a Christmas lunch.  This year, it was at my house.  Counting myself, there were 10 women there, and one other little "lady," Bridia (our pastor's daughter).  It was a nice way to begin the Advent season.    Here, I had the table all set and ready for the ladies to come for Christmas lunch.
Here are Marian, Helen, Harriet and Janice.

Norway

My daughter and I traveled to Norway a little more than 10 years ago.  What a trip!  My first flight, first out of the country (except for Canada) - a ton of firsts!   This is the base of the glacier that we actually climbed...yes, even I did...very reluctantly!    Did not have a digital camera at the time, but took a lot of pictures.
Here I am - we are at the point where we will turn around and head back down,   We all went up roped together, wearing helmets, gloves, and cleats on the boots.
I thought these homes were so cute with the grass roofs (thatched).
One of the MANY waterfalls in Norway - beautiful sights!
 Bergen.
Viking ship and wagon in the museum at Oslo.

We rode on this road!    View is taken from high on the mountain.  All I could say was "Uff-dah!"

Just How Much Snow is on the Roof??

I was getting concerned that my garage roof might collapse!   Today, some of the snow is being removed!
That's a lot of white stuff up there! These pictures were takene from inside the house, so are not as clear as they would have been if I had braved the cold and gone outside.
