School

Here is the old schoolhouse in Dalton - Dist. #8
Built in 1901 and used until 1938

Here he is "new" school - built in1938
Dist.#8 - later changed to Dist. #1380
It's too bad there is no school in Dalton anymore.
The school  is now an apartment building.

Note the old water tower - the tank was wood.

.STRIKE UP THE BAND

I came across this picture in my Mom's things.
This group of boys are having a good time with their
musical instruments.

But if you look closely, you will see
that these "instruments" are
common household items from the day.
Metal dish pans, kettle lids,etc.

Photo is from around 1915.

In the News - 1937

You know, back in the day news articles were written a little different than they are today.
Just the facts - right to the point, please.

I thought the headline of the obituary for my grandfather
was just a little cold.

From the Daily Journal, October 21, 1937.

My grandfather was only 63 years old when he died.
The afternoon before he died,  he stopped in to see his daughter (my mom)
and grandchildren for a little bit.  He told her than he was "so tired."

The next morning Mom was told that her dad had died.
As you can imagine, she was devastated.

It was a tough day for Mom and that evening, my Dad told her
she should try to get some sleep.
As she lay in bed, one Bible verse after another came to her;
she told me once that she didn't even realize she knew some of them.

The verses gave her comfort, and she felt some verses
were so fitting and pertained to her dad.

[Several days before his death, my grandpa was kicked by a horse.
It is believed he suffered a blood clot, which caused his death and this
is noted on his death certificate.]

.Look Alikes

The picture on the right is of my Mom, and the one on the left
is of my daughter, Amy.   Many have commented how
much Amy looks like her grandma.
Do you see the resemblance??

Here is one more of Mom.
Both of the pictures of Mom were taken when
she was about the same age Amy is now.
