You know, back in the day news articles were written a little different than they are today.
Just the facts - right to the point, please.
I thought the headline of the obituary for my grandfather
was just a little cold.
From the Daily Journal, October 21, 1937.
My grandfather was only 63 years old when he died.
The afternoon before he died, he stopped in to see his daughter (my mom)
and grandchildren for a little bit. He told her than he was "so tired."
The next morning Mom was told that her dad had died.
As you can imagine, she was devastated.
It was a tough day for Mom and that evening, my Dad told her
she should try to get some sleep.
As she lay in bed, one Bible verse after another came to her;
she told me once that she didn't even realize she knew some of them.
The verses gave her comfort, and she felt some verses
were so fitting and pertained to her dad.
[Several days before his death, my grandpa was kicked by a horse.
It is believed he suffered a blood clot, which caused his death and this
is noted on his death certificate.]
